Latinobarómetro Data and DocumentationThe Latinobarómetro is an annual survey conducted amongst 18 countries in Latin America. The survey, which has been conducted since 1995, asks respondents about topics such as globalization, democratic governance and political institutions, "social capital," the environment, and gender issues. In addition to including standard questions repeated over time, Latinobarómetro surveys also have particular "themes;" the 1996 survey, for instance, focused on trade and investment and politicians, while the 1998 survey focused on social capital and the 2002 survey focused on the merits of democracy and markets. Additional information about the survey - its history, sample sizes, press relases and other publications - are available from the Latinobarómetro website. The microdata files and documentation for the survey are available below. The data are available in the following formats: (1) SAS transport files; (2) SPSS portable files; (3) SPSS data files; and (4) Stata files. The SAS transport files were created via SAS' XPORT engine. Users who download the SAS data will get a zipped file containing the XPORT data file and a SAS program to "restore" the data and create a SAS catalog file to provide variable formats/value labels for the data. In addition to the Latinobarómetro data, we have also provided links to related resources for data from other surveys conducted within Latin American countries. We are distributing the data "as is" from the Latinobarómetro Corporation. Please note the following: (1) The data files contain "user-defined" missing values, i.e. responses such as "Not Applicable" have been designated as missing values in the data. If you would like alternate versions of these files without such "user-defined" missing values, please contact the Electronic Data Center staff for assistance; (2) The data and documentation for the 2005 data are in Spanish. Under the terms of our legal agreement with the data distributors, access to the data and documentation are restricted to current Emory faculty, staff, and students only and are not to be distributed outside of the university. The data are to be used for non-commerical, academic purposes only. We also encourage users of the data to properly acknowledge their usage of the Latinobarómetro data and to inform the Latinobarómetro Corporation of any publications using the data. Data Files:
