2006 Atlanta Region Information System (ARIS) Geospatial Data
Using These Data: This site contains the geospatial data from the 2006 Atlanta Region Information System DVD. These data are intended for use with GIS software. Each of the following links connects to a .zip file containing a map layer, or theme, for the Atlanta region. Each .zip file contains the appropriate shapefile for each layer, along with the associated data and formatting files (e.g. attribute data, projection information, FGDC metadata).
Please note that all data are in ESRI's ArcGIS shapefile format. Download the .zip files you need to your working directory, then extract the contents. Your GIS application should recognize the shapefiles when you add the data to your map. To save a .zip file, right-click on the link, choose "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As...", and save the file to the desired location.
The data were made available by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). Users of these data should cite both the ARC and its contributing sources. The metadata for these files are available below. Users interested in getting pre-made maps in hard-copy or electronic formats from the ARC can go to the ARC website, click on the "Info Center" tab, choose "GIS Data and Maps," and then click on the "GIS Maps" link.
As noted above, the data here are from the 2006 ARIS DVD. Note that the ARC may have updated the data since the release of the DVD in the summer of 2006. We encourage users of these data to check with the ARC whether the data have been updated - go to the ARC website, click on the "Info Center" tab, choose "GIS Data and Maps," and then click on "GIS Data." Data from the 2002 ARIS CD are available here.
