The Electronic Data Center website was developed in part through cooperation between the Robert W. Woodruff Library and the university's Academic and Administrative Information Technology (AAIT) division. The website and the substantive information contained within are maintained by staff of the Electronic Data Center, while the web application that allows for searching of our internal collection of ICPSR studies is largely due to the talents of Julia Leon, a web applications developer within AAIT. This relationship was made possible in part by a grant in August of 1998 from Emory University's Digital Information Resources Council. Chris Palazzolo in the Woodruff Library and Rebecca Sutton-Koeser in the Beck Center have also periodically provided assistance in the development of this website . Support and maintenance for the EDC's technical infrastructure, meanwhile, come from Kyle Fenton and Walt Iacullo in the Woodruff Library's Digital Programs and Systems Division.

The site is designed to make quantitative data easily accessible to researchers at Emory University. Visitors to the site may download available data directly to their desktop 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For situations where the data are not available from our collection, we have supplied links to many of the primary quantitative data providers with resources on the internet. If the data are not readily available from our site or others, researchers may contact the Data Center staff about requesting the acquisition of specific data studies. Researchers may also set up an appointment with the EDC staff if they have questions or need guidance in finding useful data sets. If you have any questions or problems using this site, please email Dr. Robert O'Reilly or contact him at 404.727.6129.

Features

Data Center Holdings

The search engine on the EDC's front page allows users to access Emory's holdings of datasets from the ICPSR. The EDC has several hundred datasets from the ICPSR archives that we have processed for ready use with statistical packages (generally SPSS and/or Stata). The data themsevles come with all available documentation and are ready for download. Users can search for datasets by title, ICPSR study#, keywords, or other search terms.

The Data Freeway

The Data Freeway provides users with a collection of links to on-line data sources (public and private, domestic and international). The links are organized by subject for easier browsing. Users may also be interested in this list of "other" useful data centers and archives.

Online Analysis

The Analyze/Extract Facility provides users with an opportunity to get quick reports and subset large data sets on the fly without having to type a command file or read the data into a statistical package.
