Database of the Americas--Holds numerous election results
from most North, Central and South American countries. Researchers
should note, however, that data is not always great for each
country and can differ widely in terms of coverage and detail.

- Australian
Bureau of Statistics--Located in Canberra. Excellent site
for most economic and social data from Australia. Free access
is limited to subscribers. Most recent data is free to download.
There is a user fee for further data.
- Australian Social Science
Data Archives (SSDA)--Located at the Australian National
University (ANU). The ASSDA was set up in 1981 with a brief to
collect and preserve computer-readable data relating to social,
political and economic affairs and to make the data available
for further analysis. The ASSDA holds numerous Australian datasets.
Access, though, is expensive for non-Australian users. However,
there is a very useful online analysis section that is free
and includes several Australian National Election Studies and
Social Science Surveys.

government websites. Most of these sites are only available
in German. If you are looking for data on elections, you may

Archives for the Social Sciences (BASS)--Source of archives
of Belgian social scientific studies. Data, however, is not
available on line. You will have to contact the archive for
access to most data. There is an English version of the study
catalogue (the link will automatically take you there).

Belges--Statistics Belgium holds substantial recent economic
and social data for Belgium. There is a limited section in English.
Site is also available in German, Dutch and French.

The most recent data is available online. Retrieval of older
data must be purchased and usually runs about $3CAD per time-series
request.

are great portals for significant data at the provincial level.

Canada--Elections Canada holds data on the most recent federal
elections
- Political
Database of the Americas--Holds data on recent national
and some subnational elections in North, South and Latin America.
Holds most historical data for federal Canadian elections and
some recent data for the provincial elections. However, for
more detailed electoral data at the provincial level, it is
best to contact the individual election offices of the provinces.
These sites also hold other significant electoral data.

- Finnish Social Science Data Archives-Holds
a significant amount of social and electoral surveys in Finland.
Most datasets are available in SPSS format (however, many of the codebooks are available only in Finnish).
There is no cost for the acquisition of most data. However, FSD has a specific
licensing policy concerning the use of datasets in the collection.
- Statistics
Finland--Statfin holds a good amount of information
on various Finnish economic, social and political indicators,
including recent Finnish election results (at the level of president,
assembly and municipal). This information is limited to the
most recent contests. Most of these results are available fow
download in an excel format. The Finland in Statistics section
is particularly useful.

data as well as a series of reports on the state of the Japanese
economy from the mid-1990's to the present.
- Japan Information
Network--The Japan Information Network provides a series
of useful indicators on the Japanese economy.

Statistics Bureau and Statistics Center--The Japanese Statistics
Bureau maintains a wide range of demographic and economic figures
on its website. Coverage varies by topic, but most of the information
is available for the 1990's. 2002 Japanese Statistical Yearbook
is online. Most data is available for download in Excel format.

Science Japan Data Archives--Site of several different social
science surveys. Mostly in Japanese.

- Centro de Investigaciones
Sociológicas (CIS)--Principal data archive site
in Spain. The CIS holds many surveys on political and social
issues. Their electoral surveys--both at the national and subnational
levels--are extremely useful. The site is primarily in Spanish,
although there is a small section in English. Some of the data
sources may also be available from the ICPSR. Access to surveys
is not free. Surveys usually run about 35 Euros apiece.
- Instituto Nacional
de Estadistica--Excellent source for most social and economic
data for Spain. A good amount of data is also available at the
regional and provincial levels.
- Bank of Spain
Some individual regions also have their own statistical agencies.
Note that most of these sites will be in Spanish or in the regional
language.
